A Sit Down With Story

They say it's good to admire your friends. My best friend Story has blossomed into a fabulous fashionista over the years, and I love to ask fashion-related questions. She has a very unique, yet wearable taste. I have sat down to ask her 10 questions on her style, her fashion beliefs, and must-haves.

Best fashion find you've found for under $50?
S: "This year I got a plaid wool and sheepskin collard pea coat from Old Navy and it has been my staple. I don't typically shop at Old Navy, but I was given a gift card for Christmas and it caught my eye. It is long and more formal than my traditional pea coat."

What are your three closet staples?
S: "A charcoal grey long sleeved sweater, a pair of trouser cut dark blue jeans, and nice pair of high-waisted pants."

One fashion rule you never break?
S: "To not wear more than two articles of leather in one outfit. I am a very traditional and simplistic dresser, so if I'm opting for a leather bag and shoes I can tell the difference between the manufacturing and that is bothersome to me."

Do you dress to make your own style or to fit into fashion trends?
S: "I take inspiration from the fashion trends, but also try to work in classic pieces and things that I personally enjoy wearing."

What is your favorite Spring fashion trend?
S: "Vibrant, what some would typically call 'grandma pattern', floral prints that maintain an air of elegance about them."

Favorite place to online shop?
S: "For feminine and unique dresses I enjoy Modcloth. But for affordable and wearable staple pieces I tend to go to forever21 and H&M."

Biggest fashion regret?
S: "Layering undershirts just for the sake of layering them--not even for the sake of warmth. Never again."

Where do you draw your inspiration for outfits from?
S: "For the overall feel of a season I look at the big designers lines, like YSL. People-wise, I love to see celebrities in their casual wear-- Alexa Chung perhaps. I also love Instagram accounts dedicated to OOTD looks and street-style based Polyvore accounts.

When did you become interested in fashion?
S: "For as long as I've had my appreciation for movies and their costume designers, I loved fashion. I was probably maybe 13 when I truly started to see how a character became well-rounded through their costume.

In your opinion, does one need to buy name brand to be considered "fashionable"?
S: "No. Every chain in affordable clothing stores takes inspiration from high-end designers into consideration. There will be pieces in a Target that can mimic something you could buy from Barney's. It is how you wear pieces that defines you as a well dressed individual. Fashion is achieved by those who love it."

I hope you enjoyed this post, I had a great time chatting with Story. She has a spectacular Polyvore account that you can check out, as well as extraordinary tumblr.  Until next week!
