Freshman Year: A Look Back

Hello! So let me preface this post with yes, it has been way too long since my last post. That being said, yes, I am also procrastinating on a final research paper in order to also write this post. However, I figured that I needed to eventually pull my blog from the pit of darkness it seems to have been swallowed up in, and today seemed like a perfect day to do so. Hopefully I won't regret this when it comes to be Wednesday and I'm pulling an all-nighter in order to finish my paper... Oh well, c'est la vie.

So college--it's pretty amazing! As I promised in my last post, I am here today to fill everyone in on what's been going on in my life, as well as to talk about the great things coming up that you all will eventually see on my page!

Here's me with some of my new RA coworkers!
West Virginia University has (so far) given me a college unlike anything I could have ever imagined. From meeting my amazing suite mates and roommate, attending every Mountaineer football game, to taking classes in subjects I'm actually passionate about, I've loved WVU from the start. In fact, I love it so much I started to wonder how I could spread the love I have for my university with others. I'm excited to say that I've been hired to be a resident hall assistant (RA) for next year in the dorm I currently live in. I'm positively elated! I'm beyond excited to help incoming freshmen see the copious amount of opportunities our school has to offer!

Of course I've also tried to experience some of the more stereotypical college experiences like enjoying the nightlife, coveting a sacred place in the library for when I need to study or get out of my room, and even scrounged around my room to find $1.19  in spare change to run up the street to Sheetz to buy a couple hot dogs. College isn't always the way the movies make it out to be, but I can promise that's more or less a good thing!

My amazing roommates cheering on the 'Eers!
Although I've found it difficult to keep my blog updated in my new fast-paced life, I have still been writing! I've been working on a series of poems and short stories that I am hoping to submit for hopeful publication later on this year. Also, since the weather is getting warmer and the end of school is quickly approaching I'm getting pumped to write some summer posts! All of this being said, my blog is very important to me and I hope to keep better track of it from here on out, scout's honor! LOL.

As the end of my freshman year comes to an end I want to look back and reflect for a moment. I cannot believe it's almost over... This time last year I was preparing to graduate and was sat with my senior class reading encouraging letters from our family and loved ones. The letters all told us not to worry, that college would be some of the best years of our life. I remember reading my mom and dad's letters; each of the them told me they were certain I would love college--regardless of how nervous I was at the time. The day I graduated I was still unsure if I really wanted to move three and a half hours away, away from my best friends who were staying close to home, as well as away from my family. In fact, I was unsure the whole car trip up to college to move in! However, looking back, I'm SO proud and happy that I went through with it all. Sure, I'm incredibly close with my family and friends, but I needed to do this for me. I'm thankful everyday that I did. To anyone who may be reading this and is afraid to push themselves out of their comfort zone, out of something they're familiar with, I want you to know that it will be okay. I want you to know that you can do it, no matter how scary it may seem. I'm sure if I can do it, then surely you can too! I also am a firm believer that things are what you make it and if you put in a little effort things can work out--maybe not the way you first imagined they would, but they will work out in their own way.

So with all of that I'll leave you with the promise to (actually) write soon! Take care!
